Welcome to our computer technology site. On these pages we will describe the various systems that we are currently using and developing, to improve our firefighting capabilities.

This site will be updated frequently, as new information comes to hand.

Where appropriate, we will provide links to each topic, and in some cases may provide files for downloading from this site.

One of the first areas that we became involved with, was training. It was found to be inconvenient for us to borrow an overhead projector each week, so we have been re-creating all the RFS training modules as Ms Powerpoint presentations.

The addition of a simple RF video adapter now allows us to display everything on the computer monitor direct on a large screen television set, effectively replacing the overhead projector.

This system is regularly used at crew leader briefings, when we are conducting large scale exercises for our RAFT (Remote Access Firefighting Team).

Another area that we are currently working on is a GPS Interactive Mapping System, now referred to as GIMS. We can now accurately plot firelines, roads, trails and features with a GPS unit, and then cable interface the information directly into the computer. GIMS displays scanned colour topo maps, with the GPS data displayed instantly in real time.

Naturally all our documentation is prepared on computer, as is all our promotional material, including monthly newsletters etc.

At our annual AGM, we display relevant material off the computer and direct onto large screen TV.
